ICC ODI rankings: India rise to second spot, Pakistan lose top position | Cricket News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: India moved up to second place after reaching the Asia Cup final and passing Pakistan, who dropped to No. 1 ODI rankings after being eliminated from the competition.
The Babar Azam-led team dropped two spots to No. 3 with 115 points in the ICC‘s mid-week report after losing to Sri Lanka in a last-ball drama for their second straight loss in the “Super Four.”
The competition for the top slot has heated up ahead of the World Cup next month, with Australia now leading India by two points (116).
Prior to the World Cup opening match in Chennai on October 8, India and Australia are scheduled to face off in a three-match ODI series in India starting on September 22.
Due to back-to-back victories in South Africa, Australia have risen to the top, but India may have an opportunity now after Australia lost the third ODI there by 111 runs.
The series finale is on Sunday, and the fourth and penultimate ODI of the rubber between South Africa and Australia is scheduled for this Friday.
On Sunday, India will meet co-hosts Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup final.
